OET (OET-LV)And I_saw the seven messengers, who before the god have_stood, and they_were_given to_them seven trumpets.

OET (OET-RV)And I saw the seven messengers who stand in front of God and they were each given a trumpet.

SIL Open Translator’s Notes:

Section 8:1–5: The Lamb opened the last seal, and an angel offered incense

In this section, the Lamb opened the seventh seal and heaven was quiet for half an hour. Then seven angels were each given trumpets. Another angel came to the altar with a bowl for burning incense. He was given incense and offered it on the altar. The angel then used the bowl to gather burning coals from the altar. He threw the burning coals upon the earth.

Other examples of headings for this section are:

The Seventh Seal (GNT)

The Seventh Seal and the Golden Censer (NRSV)

8:2a

And I saw the seven angels who stand before God,

And: Here the Greek conjunction that the BSB translates as And introduces something that happened after the events in 8:1. For example:

Then (RSV)

the seven angels who stand before God: Here the word stand and the Greek tenseThe perfect. indicate that the role of these angels was to stand in the presence of God. For example:

the seven angels who were standing before God

8:2b

and they were given seven trumpets.

they were given seven trumpets: This clause indicates that each angel received a trumpet. This clause is passive. Some languages must use an active clause. For example:

God had someone give seven trumpets to them

someone gave a trumpet to each of them

they received seven trumpetsIn some languages “take” and “receive” is translated by the same verb. The English verb “receive” implies that someone gave the trumpets, but the English verb “take” does not imply that. Your translation should imply or indicate that someone gave the trumpets.

trumpets: The word trumpet refers to a musical instrument that was often used to alert people to danger. It was also used to announce important messages. At that time trumpets were made from metal or from animal horns.

The particular kind of trumpet used here is not important. In some languages people use trumpets made of animal horn, shell, bamboo, or other material. If that is true in your language, you may want to use the word for that kind of trumpet here. See how you translated this word in 1:10 or 4:1.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

ἐνώπιον & ἑστήκασιν

before & ˓have˒_stood

In this context, while these angels may indeed position themselves in front of God's throne, the phrase stand before means to stay in the presence of another person in order to serve that person whenever and however needed. If it would be clearer in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [who remain ready to serve]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

ἐδόθησαν αὐτοῖς ἑπτὰ σάλπιγγες

˱they˲_˓were˒_given ˱to˲_them (Some words not found in SR-GNT: Καί εἶδον τούς ἑπτά ἀγγέλους οἵ ἐνώπιον τοῦ Θεοῦ ἑστήκασιν καί ἐδόθησαν αὐτοῖς ἑπτά σάλπιγγες)

If your language does not use this passive form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [God gave each of them a trumpet]
