In Daniel 11:1 through 12:4, the one who was speaking to Daniel in chapter 10 tells him what is written in the book of truth. This is as he said he would do in Daniel 10:21.

Darius was the King of the Medes. Here, the first year refers to the first year that he was king. Alternate translation: “in the first year of the reign of Darius the king of the Medes”
