17:3-6 In ancient Israel, inheritance usually passed from a father to his sons. Without sons, a man’s name could pass into oblivion. However, Zelophehad’s daughters had petitioned Moses, Moses had inquired of God, and God had ruled that they should inherit their father’s portion (see Num 27:1-11). God’s ruling established a general principle, declaring that no family would be excluded from a portion of God’s material blessings.

וַיִּפְּל֥וּ חַבְלֵֽי מְנַשֶּׁ֖ה עֲשָׂרָ֑ה
and,fell portions Mənashsheh ten
See how you translated the similar expression in 13:6. Alternate translation: “So the leaders assigned ten portions of land by lot to the tribe of Manasseh”
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
וַיִּפְּל֥וּ חַבְלֵֽי מְנַשֶּׁ֖ה עֲשָׂרָ֑ה
and,fell portions Mənashsheh ten
The meaning in context seems to be that five of these portions went to the clans named in 17:2 and the other five went to the daughters of Zelophehad and their descendants. You could indicate this explicitly in your translation if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: “So the leaders assigned portions of land to the five clans descended from Manasseh’s sons and to the five daughters of Zelphehad and their families”

As the General Introduction to Joshua discusses, here and throughout this chapter, the author describes the location of one place relative to another from his own perspective and in the way that is characteristic of his culture. In your translation, express these relative locations in the way your culture would describe them. Alternate translation: “on the east side of the Jordan River”
After the Israelites had conquered portions of the Promised Land and Joshua had grown old, the Lord directed him to divide the rest of the land among the tribes of Israel as their inheritance (Joshua 13-20). The eastern tribes had already been allotted their land under Moses’ leadership (Numbers 32), but they continued to help the other tribes drive out the Canaanites from land west of the Jordan River. The Lord also instructed the Israelites to designate several cities of refuge, where someone could flee for protection from an avenger if they accidentally killed someone (Numbers 35; Joshua 20).
