The meaning in context seems to be that five of these portions went to the clans named in [17:2](../17/02.md) and the other five went to the daughters of Zelophehad and their descendants. You could indicate this explicitly in your translation if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [So the leaders assigned portions of land to the five clans descended from Manasseh’s sons and to the five daughters of Zelphehad and their families]

In your translation, express these relative locations in the way your culture would describe them. Alternate translation: [which were on the east side of the Jordan River]
