ULT And he shall tear it open by its wings; he shall not divide it. And the priest shall cause it to become smoke on the altar, on the wood that is on the fire. It is a burnt offering, a gift of a pleasing smell to Yahweh.

UST Then the priest should tear the bird open, holding it by its wings, but he should not tear it into two parts. Next, on the wood fire that he builds on the altar, the priest should burn the bird completely in a way that causes smoke to go up. This will fulfill the requirements for the wholly burned sacrifice. Yahweh will consider it to be a gift, and he will enjoy the smell of the smoke.
¶

BSB He shall tear it open by its wings, without dividing the bird completely. And the priest is to burn it on the altar atop the burning wood. It is a burnt offering, an offering made by fire, a pleasing aroma to the LORD.

TSNTyndale Study Notes:

1:17 tear . . . without tearing it apart: Cutting larger animals into pieces (1:6, 12) probably reflects the ancient rite of covenant-making, in which the participant passed between the two halves of a sacrificed animal (see Gen 15:10). Because of their small size, birds were not cut in half. If it was necessary to pass between them, they were arranged in pairs.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / pronouns

וְשִׁסַּ֨ע אֹת֣וֹ

and,tear_~_open DOM=him/it

Given the action taken by the priest in 1:15-16, the pronoun he likely refers to the priest. If it would be helpful in your language, you could make this explicit. Alternate translation: “And the priest shall tear it open”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / pronouns

לֹ֣א יַבְדִּיל֒

not sever

The pronoun he is ambiguous but likely refers to the priest. If it would be helpful in your language, you could make this explicit. Alternate translation: “the priest shall not divide it”

Note 3 topic: translate-unknown

וְהִקְטִ֨יר אֹת֤וֹ הַכֹּהֵן֙ הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חָה עַל־הָעֵצִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר עַל־הָאֵ֑שׁ

See how you translated the similar expression in 1:9. Alternate translation: “And the priest shall cause it to become smoke on the altar, on the wood that is on the fire, and ascend towards God in heaven”
