The author does not mean that the journey of Hadad and his escorts began in Midian. He assumes that readers will understand that first they fled from Edom to nearby Midian. From there, they undertook the difficult and dangerous journey through the wilderness of Paran to Egypt. So the term arose here has the sense of “took action,” as in [2:40](../02/40.md). You could indicate this explicitly in your translation if that would be helpful to your readers. The UST models one way to do that.
