(Some words not found in UHB: tell to/near ʼAhₐron and=near/to sons_of,his and,deal_respectfully with,sacred_donations_of sons_of Yisrael and=not profane DOM name_of holy_of,my which/who they dedicate to=me I YHWH )
This expression uses the possessive form to describe holy things (that is, sacrificial food offerings) that the sons of Israel offer to Yahweh as sacrifices. If your language would not use the possessive form for this, you could use a generic expression. Alternate translation: [the holy things that the sons of Israel offer to Yahweh]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
בְנֵֽי־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל
sons_of Yisrael
See how you handled this metaphor for the people of Israel in [1:2](../01/02.md).
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
וְלֹ֥א יְחַלְּל֖וּ אֶת־ שֵׁ֣ם קָדְשִׁ֑י
and=not profane DOM name_of holy_of,my
To profane the name of my holiness (that is, Yahweh’s holy name) means to publicly denigrate Yahweh’s name by one’s actions. Here, the word name represents Yahweh’s reputation and, by extension, Yahweh himself. So to profane this name is to associate Yahweh who is holy with that which is not only not holy, but abominable and detestable, like child sacrifice. If your language has a similar expression, consider using it here. If not, consider using a generic expression. See how you translated this expression in [20:3](../20/03.md). Alternate translation: [and they shall not publicly defame me] or [and they shall not openly denigrate my reputation]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / possession
אֶת־ שֵׁ֣ם קָדְשִׁ֑י
DOM name_of (Some words not found in UHB: tell to/near ʼAhₐron and=near/to sons_of,his and,deal_respectfully with,sacred_donations_of sons_of Yisrael and=not profane DOM name_of holy_of,my which/who they dedicate to=me I YHWH )
This expression uses the possessive form to describe Yahweh’s name (that is, his reputation as God) that is characterized by holiness. If your language would not use the possessive form for this, you could use a generic expression. Alternate translation: [my holy name] or [my sacred reputation]
22:2-6 The priest’s portions of the sacred offerings were regarded as “most holy” (see 2:3) and were not to come into contact with anything unclean (11:1–15:33). Accordingly, any descendant of Aaron who was unclean was forbidden to eat this food.
OET (OET-LV) Speak to ʼAhₐron and_near/to sons_of_his and_deal_respectfully with_sacred_donations_of the_people_of Yisrāʼēl/(Israel) and_not they_will_profane DOM the_name_of holy_of_my which they are_setting_apart_as_holy to_me I am_YHWH.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
Acknowledgements: The Hebrew text, lemmas, and morphology are all thanks to the OSHB and some of the glosses are from Macula Hebrew.
