OET (OET-LV)But having gifts according_to the grace which having_been_given to_us special:
whether prophecy, according_to the relationship of_the faith,

OET (OET-RV)We have gifts according to the special grace that was given to us: maybe prophecy then do it according to the proportion of your faith,

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / exclusive

ἔχοντες & ἡμῖν

having & ˱to˲_us

Here, we and us refer to all Christians, so they are inclusive. Your language may require you to mark these forms.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

ἔχοντες & χαρίσματα & διάφορα

having & gifts & (Some words not found in SR-GNT: ἔχοντες Δέ χαρίσματα κατά τήν χάριν τήν δοθεῖσαν ἡμῖν διαφορά εἴτε προφητείαν κατά τήν ἀναλογίαν τῆς πίστεως)

Paul speaks of the different abilities to serve other believers that God gives believers as being gracious gifts from God. If it would be helpful in your language, you could express the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [we have different spiritual abilities]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

κατὰ τὴν χάριν τὴν δοθεῖσαν ἡμῖν

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: ἔχοντες Δέ χαρίσματα κατά τήν χάριν τήν δοθεῖσαν ἡμῖν διαφορά εἴτε προφητείαν κατά τήν ἀναλογίαν τῆς πίστεως)

If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you can state this in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [according to the grace that God has given to us]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

τὴν χάριν & προφητείαν, κατὰ τὴν ἀναλογίαν

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: ἔχοντες Δέ χαρίσματα κατά τήν χάριν τήν δοθεῖσαν ἡμῖν διαφορά εἴτε προφητείαν κατά τήν ἀναλογίαν τῆς πίστεως)

If your language does not use abstract nouns for the ideas of grace and prophecy, you could express the same ideas in another way. Alternate translation: [what is graciously … being able to prophecy, according to what has been proportioned]

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / ellipsis

εἴτε προφητείαν, κατὰ τὴν ἀναλογίαν τῆς πίστεως

whether prophecy (Some words not found in SR-GNT: ἔχοντες Δέ χαρίσματα κατά τήν χάριν τήν δοθεῖσαν ἡμῖν διαφορά εἴτε προφητείαν κατά τήν ἀναλογίαν τῆς πίστεως)

Paul is leaving out some of the words that a clause would need in many languages to be complete. If it would be helpful in your language, you could supply these words from the context. Alternate translation: [if God has given someone the gift of prophecy, then that person must use that gift according to the proportion of his faith]

Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

κατὰ τὴν ἀναλογίαν τῆς πίστεως

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: ἔχοντες Δέ χαρίσματα κατά τήν χάριν τήν δοθεῖσαν ἡμῖν διαφορά εἴτε προφητείαν κατά τήν ἀναλογίαν τῆς πίστεως)

Here Paul uses faith in the same way he did in [12:3](../12/03.md). See how you translated the clause “as God has distributed to each one a measure of faith” in that verse.

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

12:6 The ability to prophesy was one of the most important of the New Testament gifts (see also 1 Cor 12:28; Eph 4:11). Although prophets are mentioned in several passages in Acts as predicting the future (see Acts 11:28; 21:10-12), the prophet’s most fundamental responsibility is to communicate God’s message to the community of believers (1 Cor 12:3, 24-25, 29-30; see also 1 Cor 14:1-40).
• as much faith as God has given you (literally in proportion to the faith): Proportion (Greek analogia) is a word drawn from mathematics and logic, where it refers to the correct proportions in a relationship among things, quantities, or ideas. Paul uses the phrase to remind prophets to make sure that their utterances are in right proportion to faith, whether the amount of individual faith the prophet has been given, or the Christian faith in general (see study note on Rom 12:3). This passage has given theology the phrase the analogy of faith, which refers to the importance of bringing the interpretation of any particular passage into line with the teaching of all of Scripture.
