OET (OET-RV)Therefore his faith was credited to him and he was declared guiltless.

SIL Open Translator’s Notes:

Section 4:13–25: God considers/calls people righteous who believe in Jesus

In this section, Paul showed that God’s promise of blessing to Abraham and his descendants was made because Abraham believed God. God did not promise blessing because Abraham obeyed the law of Moses. Paul then described how Abraham believed and why God called him righteous. Paul then explained that God also calls the people who believe in God (and his Messiah, Jesus) righteous.

Here are other possible headings for this section:

God counts people as righteous through faith, not through the Law Of Moses

God also called us(incl) righteous because we believe

The lesson/model of God calling Abraham righteous applies to us/believers

4:22

This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.”

This is why: There is a textual issue in 4:22: (1) Some Greek manuscripts have the word therefore (BSB, RSV, NIV, GNT, NJB, NASB, GW, CEV, NABRE, ESV, NCV). (2) Some Greek manuscripts have the words therefore also (NLT, KJV, REB). It is recommended that you follow option (1). This phrase indicates that the description of Abraham’s faith (4:18–21) shows why God reckoned his faith as righteousness. For example:

Therefore (NRSV)

“it was credited to him as righteousness”: The Greek is literally “(it) was counted to him as righteousness.” See how you translated this clause in 4:3c.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: grammar-connect-logic-result

διὸ καὶ

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: Διό καί Ἐλογίσθη αὐτῷ εἰς δικαιοσύνην)

Here, therefore introduces a result clause. Use a natural way in your language for indicating result. Alternate translation: [And for this reason] or [And this is the reason why]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / quotemarks

ἐλογίσθη αὐτῷ εἰς δικαιοσύνην

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: Διό καί Ἐλογίσθη αὐτῷ εἰς δικαιοσύνην)

This clause is a quotation from [Genesis 15:6](../gen/15/06.md). It may be helpful to your readers to indicate this with quotation marks or with whatever other punctuation or convention your language uses to indicate quotations.

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

ἐλογίσθη αὐτῷ εἰς δικαιοσύνην

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: Διό καί Ἐλογίσθη αὐτῷ εἰς δικαιοσύνην)

See how you translated this in [4:3](../04/03.md).
