OET (OET-RV) Isn’t this the David that when they dance they sing,
⇔ ‘Sha’ul has struck down his thousands,
⇔ ≈and David his ten thousands’?”
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion
הֲלוֹא־זֶ֣ה דָוִ֔ד אֲשֶׁ֧ר יַעֲנוּ־ל֛וֹ בַּמְּחֹל֖וֹת לֵאמֹ֑ר הִכָּ֤ה שָׁאוּל֙ בַּֽאֲלָפָ֔יו וְדָוִ֖ד בְּרִבְבֹתָֽיו
am=not this Dāvid which/who sing to=him/it in/on/at/with,dances to=say killed Shāʼūl in/on/at/with,thousands_of,his and,David (Some words not found in UHB: am=not this Dāvid which/who sing to=him/it in/on/at/with,dances to=say killed Shāʼūl in/on/at/with,thousands_of,his and,David in/on/at/with,ten_thousands'_of,his )
The Philistine lords are using the question form for emphasis. If a speaker of your language would not use the question form for that purpose, you could translate this as a statement or as an exclamation. Alternate translation: [This is David, of whom they sing in the dances, saying, ‘Saul has struck his thousands, and David his myriads’!]
Note 2 topic: writing-pronouns
יַעֲנוּ
sing
The author is not using the pronoun they to refer to specific people. Use an expression for this that would be natural in your language. Alternate translation: [people sing] or [is sung]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / quotesinquotes
לֵאמֹ֑ר הִכָּ֤ה שָׁאוּל֙ בַּֽאֲלָפָ֔יו וְדָוִ֖ד בְּרִבְבֹתָֽיו
to=say killed Shāʼūl in/on/at/with,thousands_of,his and,David (Some words not found in UHB: am=not this Dāvid which/who sing to=him/it in/on/at/with,dances to=say killed Shāʼūl in/on/at/with,thousands_of,his and,David in/on/at/with,ten_thousands'_of,his )
If it would be clearer in your language, you could translate this so that there is not a quotation within a quotation. Alternate translation: [saying that Saul has struck his thousands, and David his myriads]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
הִכָּ֤ה שָׁאוּל֙ בַּֽאֲלָפָ֔יו
killed Shāʼūl in/on/at/with,thousands_of,his
By struck, the singers mean killed in battle. See how you translated that term in [4:2](../04/02.md). Alternate translation: [Saul has killed his thousands]
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / ellipsis
וְדָוִ֖ד בְּרִבְבֹתָֽיו
and,David (Some words not found in UHB: am=not this Dāvid which/who sing to=him/it in/on/at/with,dances to=say killed Shāʼūl in/on/at/with,thousands_of,his and,David in/on/at/with,ten_thousands'_of,his )
The singers are leaving out some of the words that in many languages a sentence would need in order to be complete. You can supply these words from the context if that would be clearer in your language. Alternate translation: [and David has struck his myriads] or [and David has killed his myriads]
Note 6 topic: translate-numbers
בְּרִבְבֹתָֽיו
(Some words not found in UHB: am=not this Dāvid which/who sing to=him/it in/on/at/with,dances to=say killed Shāʼūl in/on/at/with,thousands_of,his and,David in/on/at/with,ten_thousands'_of,his )
See how you translated this number in [18:7](../18/07.md). Alternate translation: [his ten thousands]
29:5 This jingle referred to slain Philistines (18:7). It is remarkable that David could find refuge in their midst.

OET (OET-RV) Isn’t this the David that when they dance they sing,
⇔ ‘Sha’ul has struck down his thousands,
⇔ ≈and David his ten thousands’?”
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
Acknowledgements: The Hebrew text, lemmas, and morphology are all thanks to the OSHB and some of the glosses are from Macula Hebrew.
