TSNTyndale Study Notes:

14:2 Samson’s choice of a bride was informed only by his pleasure in her appearance. Intermarriage was a significant mark of covenant infidelity (Josh 23:12-13), but God is able to work through human sinfulness.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: writing-quotations

and declared to his father and to his mother and said

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_ascended and,told to,father,his and,to,mother,his and=he/it_said woman/wife saw in/on/at/with,Timnah, from,daughters Pelishtim and=now get DOM,her to/for=me to/for=(a)_woman )

The expression and said introduces a direct quotation. In your translation, use a natural way of introducing direct quotations in your language. Alternate translation: “and told his father and mother about this, saying”

Note 2 topic: grammar-connect-words-phrases

And now

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_ascended and,told to,father,his and,to,mother,his and=he/it_said woman/wife saw in/on/at/with,Timnah, from,daughters Pelishtim and=now get DOM,her to/for=me to/for=(a)_woman )

See how you translated the phrase And now, which introduces someone’s main point, in 11:22. Alternate translation: “So this is what I want you to do for me:”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

get her for me for a wife

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_ascended and,told to,father,his and,to,mother,his and=he/it_said woman/wife saw in/on/at/with,Timnah, from,daughters Pelishtim and=now get DOM,her to/for=me to/for=(a)_woman )

Samson assumes that his parents will know that by get her for me for a wife he means that he wants them to arrange between him and this woman with her family a marriage. You could say that explicitly if it would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: “arrange with her family a marriage between me and her”
