ULT And he shall slaughter the lamb in the place where he slaughters the sin offering and the burnt offering, in the holy place, for the guilt offering is like the sin offering; it is for the priest. It is a holy thing of holy things.

UST Then that person should kill the lamb in the same location in which people regularly kill the purifying and wholly burned sacrifices. This location should be somewhere that the priests have set apart for such sacred purposes. The person should kill the lamb here because the restoring sacrifice is like the purifying sacrifice in this regard: it belongs to the priest for his portion of food. Out of all the gifts that people offer to me, the portion of the sacrifice that the priests keep for themselves for food is specially set apart.

BSB Then he is to slaughter the lamb in the sanctuary area where the sin offering and burnt offering are slaughtered. Like the sin offering, the guilt offering belongs to the priest; it is most holy.

NET He must then slaughter the male lamb in the place where the sin offering and the burnt offering are slaughtered, in the sanctuary, because, like the sin offering, the guilt offering belongs to the priest; it is most holy.

LSV And he has slaughtered the lamb in the place where he slaughters the sin-offering and the burnt-offering, in the holy place; for like the sin-offering, the guilt-offering is for the priest; it [is] most holy.

FBV Then he will kill the lamb near the sanctuary where the sin offering and burnt offering are killed. The sin offering and the guilt offering belong to the priest; it is most holy.

T4T Then the priest must slaughter the lamb in the sacred place where the other sacrifices are offered. Like the offering to enable people to be forgiven, this guilt offering is holy, and belongs to the priest.

LEB And he shall slaughter the male lamb in the place where he slaughters the sin offering and the burnt offering in the sanctuary’s space,[fn] because as the sin offering belongs to the priest, soalso the guilt offering—it is a most holy thing.[fn]

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: writing-pronouns

וְשָׁחַ֣ט אֶת־הַכֶּ֗בֶשׂ

and,slaughter DOM the,male_lamb

Here, he refers to the person who is to be cleansed. If this would not be clear in your language, consider stating the referent explicitly. Alternate translation: “And the person who is to be cleansed shall slaughter the lamb”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism

בִּ֠מְקוֹם אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִשְׁחַ֧ט אֶת־הַֽחַטָּ֛את וְאֶת־הָעֹלָ֖ה בִּמְק֣וֹם הַקֹּ֑דֶשׁ

in/on/at/with,place which/who slaughtered DOM the,sin_offering and=DOM the,burnt_offering in/on/at/with,place the,holy

These expressions mean basically the same thing. The second emphasizes the meaning of the first by repeating the same idea with different words. Here, in the holy place clarifies the previous phrase and further defines where the priest was to kill the lamb. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could connect the phrases with a word that shows that the second phrase is repeating the first one, not saying something additional. Alternate translation: “in the place where he slaughters the sin offering and the burnt offering, that is, in the holy place”

Note 3 topic: translate-tense

בִּ֠מְקוֹם אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִשְׁחַ֧ט אֶת־הַֽחַטָּ֛את וְאֶת־הָעֹלָ֖ה

in/on/at/with,place which/who slaughtered DOM the,sin_offering and=DOM the,burnt_offering

Here, the author of Leviticus does not use the present tense to describe contemporaneous or ongoing action, as if he is referring to a specific instance where an individual is preparing a sin offering or a burnt offering. Rather, the present tense is being used both to describe an action that was previously described in the book of Leviticus and to depict a hypothetical situation. If it would be helpful in your language, consider choosing language that makes it plain that the author is not referring to specific past actions. Alternate translation: “in the same place where he might slaughter the sin offering and the burnt offering”

Note 4 topic: writing-pronouns

אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִשְׁחַ֧ט אֶת־הַֽחַטָּ֛את

which/who slaughtered DOM the,sin_offering

Here, he does not refer to the person who is to be cleansed specifically. Rather, it refers generally to anyone who might offer the sin offering or the burnt offering. If this would not be clear in your language, consider stating the referent explicitly. Alternate translation: “where people slaughter the sin offering”

Note 5 topic: grammar-connect-logic-result

כִּ֡י כַּ֠חַטָּאת הָאָשָׁ֥ם

that/for/because/then/when like_the,sin_offering the,guilt_offering

The word translated as for indicates that what follows is a reason for what came before. Use a connector in your language that makes it clear that what follows is a reason for what came before. Alternate translation, with a period before: “This is because the guilt offering is like the sin offering”

Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

הוּא֙ לַכֹּהֵ֔ן

he/it belongs_to_the,priest

See how you handled the similar expression in 5:13.

Note 7 topic: figures-of-speech / possession

קֹ֥דֶשׁ קָֽדָשִׁ֖ים הֽוּא׃

most_holy_of holy_ones (Some words not found in UHB: and,slaughter DOM the,male_lamb in/on/at/with,place which/who slaughtered DOM the,sin_offering and=DOM the,burnt_offering in/on/at/with,place the,holy that/for/because/then/when like_the,sin_offering the,guilt_offering he/it belongs_to_the,priest most_holy_of holy_ones he/it )
