OET (OET-LV) saying, that We_found the the_prison having_been_shut with all security, and the guards having_stood before the doors, but having_opened_up, we_found no_one inside.
OET (OET-RV) “We found the prison all locked up with the guards in their positions at the doors, but when they opened it up, there was no one inside!”
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
τὸ δεσμωτήριον εὕρομεν κεκλεισμένον ἐν πάσῃ ἀσφαλείᾳ, καὶ τοὺς φύλακας
the /the/_prison ˱we˲_found /having_been/_shut with all security and the guards
If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an active verbal form in place of the passive form shut, and you can say who did the action. Alternate translation: [We found that the guards had shut the prison in all security and we found the guards]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns
ἐν πάσῃ ἀσφαλείᾳ
with all security
If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea behind the word security, you could express the same idea with an adverb such as “securely.” The word all is an intensifier. Alternate translation: [very securely]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
ἀνοίξαντες
/having/_opened_up
Your language may require you to specify the object of opened. Alternate translation: [once we opened the doors]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / hyperbole
ἔσω οὐδένα εὕρομεν
inside no_one ˱we˲_found
By no one, the officers mean that they found none of the men they had been sent to bring, that is, none of the apostles. It is possible that other people were also being held in the prison, but the angel would not have released them, and they would still have been inside. Alternate translation: [we did not find any of those men inside]
5:17-40 The success of the apostles’ ministry again aroused strong opposition (cp. 4:1-3). The wealthy and powerful Sadducees controlled the Temple establishment and had a Temple police force at their disposal. They opposed belief in the resurrection and were determined not to allow the apostles to proclaim their message about the resurrection of Jesus unchallenged. They also sensed that their hold on the Jewish people was loosening, so, filled with jealousy, they attacked the apostles.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
