uW Translation Notes:

Connecting Statement:

Connecting Statement:

King Solomon continues praying.

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / hypo

(Occurrence 0) Suppose they sin … suppose that you are angry

(Some words not found in UHB: that/for/because/then/when sin to/for=you(fs) that/for/because/then/when not humankind which/who not sin and,angry in/on/at/with,them and,give,them to=(the)_face_of/in_front_of/before enemy and,carried_away,them captive_of,their to/towards earth/land far or near )

When Solomon was speaking, these hypothetical situations had not happened, but Solomon knew that they might happen in the future. Use the form in your language for talking about events that have not happened but might happen in the future.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

(Occurrence 0) hand them over to the enemy

(Some words not found in UHB: that/for/because/then/when sin to/for=you(fs) that/for/because/then/when not humankind which/who not sin and,angry in/on/at/with,them and,give,them to=(the)_face_of/in_front_of/before enemy and,carried_away,them captive_of,their to/towards earth/land far or near )

Here “hand them over to the enemy” represents allowing the enemy to capture them.

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

(Occurrence 0) so that the enemy carries them away

(Some words not found in UHB: that/for/because/then/when sin to/for=you(fs) that/for/because/then/when not humankind which/who not sin and,angry in/on/at/with,them and,give,them to=(the)_face_of/in_front_of/before enemy and,carried_away,them captive_of,their to/towards earth/land far or near )

Here “carries them away” represents forcing them to leave their own country. Alternate translation: “so that the enemy forces them to leave”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

6:21-39 In his covenant with Israel, the Lord established blessings and life as consequences of obedience, and curses and death as consequences of disobedience (Deut 27:11–28:68; 30:15-18). Solomon prayed for God to hear . . . and forgive when the people failed to keep God’s covenant. The seven “if-then” petitions of his prayer represented any future situation that the people of the covenant might encounter. In each case, Solomon described the situation and asked God to intervene to help his people.
