uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

(Occurrence 0) arise, Yahweh God, to your resting place

(Some words not found in UHB: and=now arise, YHWH ʼElohīm to,resting_place_of,your you(ms) and,ark_of might_of,your priests_of,your YHWH ʼElohīm clothed salvation and,faithful_of,your rejoice in/on/at/with,goodness )

This pictures God as if he were sitting on his throne, and asks that he will get up from his throne and come to this place. Alternate translation: “arise, Yahweh God, and come to your resting place”

(Occurrence 0) the ark of your strength

(Some words not found in UHB: and=now arise, YHWH ʼElohīm to,resting_place_of,your you(ms) and,ark_of might_of,your priests_of,your YHWH ʼElohīm clothed salvation and,faithful_of,your rejoice in/on/at/with,goodness )

Alternate translation: “the ark, which is a symbol of your power”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

(Occurrence 0) Let your priests … be clothed with salvation

(Some words not found in UHB: and=now arise, YHWH ʼElohīm to,resting_place_of,your you(ms) and,ark_of might_of,your priests_of,your YHWH ʼElohīm clothed salvation and,faithful_of,your rejoice in/on/at/with,goodness )

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea behind the word salvation, you can express the same idea with a verbal form such as “to save.” This could mean: (1) being clothed with salvation is a metaphor for experiencing salvation. Alternate translation: “Let your priests … know that you have saved them” or (2) being clothed with salvation is a metaphor for demonstrating salvation. Alternate translation: “Let your priests … demonstrate how you save people” (See also: figs-abstractnouns)

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

6:41-42 Solomon’s prayer concludes with the quotation of a psalm (Ps 132:8-10). This prayer was the final part of transferring the Ark to its place in the Temple. Prayers with psalms had also accompanied David’s transfer of the Ark to Jerusalem (1 Chr 16:7-36); Solomon’s use of a psalm recalls the time when the Ark was first brought to its proper place.
• God is called to arise, not to war (cp. Num 10:35) but to his resting place in the Temple.
