OET (OET-LV)And_they_will_bring_back to heart_of_their on_the_earth where they_have_been_taken_captive there and_they_will_repent and_they_will_seek_favour to_you in_land their_captivity_of_of to_say we_have_sinned we_have_done_wrong and_we_have_acted_wickedly.

OET (OET-RV)and then in that land where they’re captives, they turn and admit their wickedness and their disobedience, and request your favour,

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / hypo

(Occurrence 0) suppose they realize … suppose that they repent … Suppose that they say

(Some words not found in UHB: and,they_will_bring_back to/towards heart_of,their on_the=earth which/who taken_captive there and,they_will_repent and,they_will_seek_favor to,you in=land their_captivity_of,of to=say sinned done_wrong and,we_have_acted_wickedly )

When Solomon was speaking, these hypothetical situations had not happened, but Solomon knew that they might happen in the future. Use the form in your language for talking about events that have not happened but might happen in the future.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

(Occurrence 0) where they have been exiled

(Some words not found in UHB: and,they_will_bring_back to/towards heart_of,their on_the=earth which/who taken_captive there and,they_will_repent and,they_will_seek_favor to,you in=land their_captivity_of,of to=say sinned done_wrong and,we_have_acted_wickedly )

If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you can state this in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “where their enemies have taken them as exiles”

(Occurrence 0) seek favor from you

(Some words not found in UHB: and,they_will_bring_back to/towards heart_of,their on_the=earth which/who taken_captive there and,they_will_repent and,they_will_seek_favor to,you in=land their_captivity_of,of to=say sinned done_wrong and,we_have_acted_wickedly )

Alternate translation: “beg you to be merciful to them”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism

(Occurrence 0) We have acted perversely and sinned. We have behaved wickedly

These two sentences mean the same thing. Together they emphasize how bad the people’s actions were.

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / doublet

(Occurrence 0) acted perversely and sinned

(Some words not found in UHB: and,they_will_bring_back to/towards heart_of,their on_the=earth which/who taken_captive there and,they_will_repent and,they_will_seek_favor to,you in=land their_captivity_of,of to=say sinned done_wrong and,we_have_acted_wickedly )

The words mean basically the same thing and emphasize how badly the people sinned.

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

6:21-39 In his covenant with Israel, the Lord established blessings and life as consequences of obedience, and curses and death as consequences of disobedience (Deut 27:11–28:68; 30:15-18). Solomon prayed for God to hear . . . and forgive when the people failed to keep God’s covenant. The seven “if-then” petitions of his prayer represented any future situation that the people of the covenant might encounter. In each case, Solomon described the situation and asked God to intervene to help his people.
