OET (OET-LV) I_approached to one of the_ones_standing and_truth I_was_asking from_him concerning all_of this and_he/it_said to_me and_the_interpretation_of the_matters he_made_known_to_me.
OET (OET-RV) I approached one of those who were standing there and asked him what was going on, so he told me, and then he revealed the interpretation of those things to me:
Daniel had a vision of four beasts on earth and of God on his throne in heaven. One of the heavenly beings explained to Daniel that the four beasts represented four earthly kingdoms.
While still in a dreamlike state, Daniel asked about the meaning of what he had seen. God’s servant briefly explained to Daniel the meaning of his dream. He gave a summary of what the vision symbolized.
I approached one of those who were standing there,
I went to one of the people/angels standing before God
So I went up to one of God's servants who were standing before his throne.
I approached one of those who were standing there: The phrase one of those who were standing there refers back to the servants of God mentioned in 7:10c–d. While he was still in his dream or vision, Daniel went up to one of the people (or angels) who were standing by the throne of God ready to serve him. Other ways to translate this include:
I went to someone who was standing there (GW)
So I approached one of those standing beside the throne (NLT)
those who were standing there: It is not clear if these beings were people or angels. Use the same interpretation that you used in 7:10c–d. In some languages it may be possible to avoid being specific by saying:
God’s servants standing there
and I asked him the true meaning of all this.
and asked him what the entire vision meant.
I asked him, “What does this whole vision symbolize/signify?”
and I asked him the true meaning of all this: The Aramaic phrase that the BSB translates as the true meaning of all this is literally “the truth concerning all this.” Daniel wanted to know the truth about what his vision meant. He understood that the beasts and horns were symbols of something else, something real and true. He wanted to know what they signified. He was not implying that some of his vision was true and some was not true. Here are some other ways to translate this:
and asked him what it all meant (NLT)
and asked him to explain it all (GNT)
and enquired what all this really signified (REB)
In some languages it may be natural to translate 7:16b as direct speech. For example:
I asked him, “What does this vision really mean?”
“What is the meaning of this whole vision?” I asked him.
So he told me the interpretation of these things:
So he explained what it meant, saying,
So he told me the meaning of the images/visions I had seen. He said,
So he told me the interpretation of these things: The Aramaic phrase that the BSB translates as he told me the interpretation of these things is literally “And he told me and he made known to me the interpretation of these things” (see the NIV). The two phrases refer to the same action, the servant’s response to Daniel’s question, so the BSB has combined them into one sentence. Together they introduce that response. Here are some other ways to translate this:
So he told me the meaning. He said… (GNT)
He explained it to me like this: (NLT)
חַד֙ מִן־קָ֣אֲמַיָּ֔א
one from/more_than the_[ones],standing
This is one of the heavenly beings who were standing before God’s throne. This could mean: (1) these are angels, spirits who serve God (2) these are people who have died and are now in heaven.
עַֽל־כָּל־דְּנָ֑ה
on/upon all/each/any/every this/about_this
Alternate translation: “about the things I had seen”
7:1-28 This chapter contains a terrifying vision (7:2-14) and its interpretation (7:17-27). The sequence of kingdoms recalls Nebuchadnezzar’s dream some forty-five years earlier (2:1-45).

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
