The boundaries of Judah
The land of the tribe of Judah
The north boundary of Judah started from the north end of the Dead Sea and went west from there to the Mediterranean Sea. This boundary did not go in a straight line. It swung south to avoid Jerusalem, which was part of the territory of Benjamin.
Then it went out to the northern slope of Ekron,
The border then goes along the slope of the hill to the north of Ekron.
It continues along the hillside north of Ekron Town.
Then it went out to the northern slope of Ekron: The phrase the northern slope indicates a mountain slope.
Ekron: The town of Ekron was one of the five most important towns of the Philistines. It was southwest of Timnah.
Here are some other ways to translate this part of the verse:
It continued along the hillside north of the town of Ekron
The border then went on along the slope of the hill to the north of Ekron

Then it curves westward toward Shikkeron.
There the border turns to go west to Shikkeron Town.

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / personification
אֶל־כֶּ֣תֶף עֶקְרוֹן֮ צָפוֹנָה֒
to/towards slope_of ˊEqrōn northward,
See how you translated the same expression in [15:8](../15/08.md). Alternate translation: [to the northern slope of the mound on which the city of Ekron was built]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
וְהָי֛וּ תֹּצְא֥וֹת הַגְּב֖וּל יָֽמָּה
and=they_will_be end_of of,the_territory westward,
As the Introduction to Joshua discusses, when the author says seaward, typically he is referring to the Mediterranean Sea. You could indicate this explicitly in your translation if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [And the border ended at the Mediterranean Sea]

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
