The author is speaking as if Yahweh had physically raised up this adversary, that is, as if he had lifted him up into the air or to an elevated location. In contexts such as this, this expression describes making a person powerful or giving a person a powerful position. To translate this expression here and in verse 23, see how you represented the same image in [9:5](../09/05.md). Alternate translation: [And Yahweh made someone a powerful adversary of Solomon]

The author is introducing Hadad the Edomite as a new participant in the story. Your language may have its own way of introducing new participants that you can use in your translation. Alternate translation: [There was a man named Hadad the Edomite. He was from the seed of the king in Edom]

The author is speaking of Hadad as if he had actually grown from the seed of the king, as if a person were a plant that grew from a seed. He means that Hadad was a descendant of the king of Edom. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [He was a descendant of the king of Edom]
