OET (OET-RV) Shelomoh also forced eighty thousand men to cut stones in the hill country and seventy thousand men to haul loads.

In this verse, the words carrier of a burden and quarrier are singular in form, but they refer to all the workers as groups. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use the plural form of these terms. Alternate translation: [And there were to Solomon 70,000 burden carriers and 80,000 quarriers]

If it would be more natural in your language, you may want to put the information about the quarriers before the information about the carriers, since the quarriers would first dig out the stones and the carriers would then drag them away. Alternate translation: [80,000 quarriers in the hill country and 70,000 burden carriers]

Here the author uses a general expression, a carrier of a burden, for someone who would transport goods by picking them up and carrying them. However, the huge blocks of stone that the other workers were cutting for the temple were far too heavy for anyone to carry. Even a large group of men could not have picked them up and carried them. So use a term here in your translation that indicates more generally that these men transported the stone blocks. (They probably did this by mounting the stones on sledges and pulling the sledges over a series of round wooden logs that teams of men would move from the rear to the front in succession.) Alternate translation: [70,000 transporters] or [70,000 haulers of stone]

A quarrier is a person who cuts stone out of rock formations. If your readers would not be familiar with what a quarrier is, you could use a more general term or explain it in a footnote. Alternate translation: [a stone cutter] or [a person who cut stone]

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
