OET (OET-RV)

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

לֹֽא־ תַעֲשֹׁ֥ק אֶת־ רֵֽעֲךָ֖ וְלֹ֣א תִגְזֹ֑ל

not oppress DOM neighbor_of,your and=not rob

Here, neighbor means “anyone.” The meaning of this can be made explicit. Alternate translation: [Do not hurt or rob anyone]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

לֹֽא־ תָלִ֞ין פְּעֻלַּ֥ת שָׂכִ֛יר אִתְּךָ֖ עַד־ בֹּֽקֶר

not not remain wages_of hired_man with, you until morning

Yahweh commands the employer to pay his servant promptly when his work is done that day. The full meaning of this statement can be made clear.

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

19:13 Day laborers had no land and were a part of Israel’s lowest economic ranks. These hired workers depended on landowners for their livelihood. A hired man needed to receive his wages promptly so that he could feed his family (Deut 24:15); to withhold the wages of such a worker was to cheat him.
