OET (OET-LV)Just_as someone_has_done in_the_day the_this YHWH he_has_commanded to_done to_make_atonement for_you(pl).

OET (OET-RV)

uW Translation Notes:

כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשָׂ֖ה בַּיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֑ה צִוָּ֧ה יְהוָ֛ה לַעֲשֹׂ֖ת

just=as he/it_had_made in_the=day the=this commanded YHWH to,done

Alternate translation: [What has been done today is just as Yahweh commanded should be done]

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

לְכַפֵּ֥ר עֲלֵיכֶֽם

to,make_atonement for,you(pl)

See how you handled the word atonement in [1:4](../01/04.md).

Note 2 topic: grammar-connect-logic-goal

לְכַפֵּ֥ר עֲלֵיכֶֽם׃

to,make_atonement (Some words not found in UHB: just=as he/it_had_made in_the=day the=this commanded YHWH to,done to,make_atonement for,you(pl) )

Here, to marks making atonement as the goal or purpose of Yahweh’s commandments regarding the procedure of the various sacrifices performed on this day. Use a connector in your language that makes it clear that this is the purpose. It may be helpful to start a new sentence here. Alternate translation, with a period before: [He did this so that he might make atonement for you]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / yousingular

עֲלֵיכֶֽם׃

(Some words not found in UHB: just=as he/it_had_made in_the=day the=this commanded YHWH to,done to,make_atonement for,you(pl) )

Here, the pronoun you is plural. It refers to Aaron and his sons, so use the plural form in your translation if your language marks that distinction.

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

8:34 commanded by the Lord: The details of the sacrifice rituals were symbolic and important in their own right. Yet most important, the priests were to obey God’s commands. Complete obedience to God is a major theme in both the Old Testament and the New Testament: “Obedience is better than sacrifice” (1 Sam 15:22).
