OET (OET-LV)And_ Mosheh _brought_forward DOM ʼAhₐron and_DOM sons_of_his and_washed DOM_them in/on/at/with_water.

OET (OET-RV)

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: translate-symaction

וַיַּקְרֵ֣ב מֹשֶׁ֔ה אֶֽת־אַהֲרֹ֖ן וְאֶת־בָּנָ֑יו

and,brought_~_forward Mosheh DOM ʼAhₐron and=DOM sons_of,his

To present someone or something is a symbolic action that includes bringing the person, object, or animal to the entrance of the tent of meeting, where Yahweh lived among the Israelites. Here, the same verb is used of Aaron and his sons that was used for the sacrifices in Leviticus 1–7. Alternate translation: [And Moses brought Aaron and his sons forward to stand in Yahweh’s presence]

Note 2 topic: translate-symaction

וַיִּרְחַ֥ץ אֹתָ֖ם בַּמָּֽיִם

and,washed DOM=them in/on/at/with,water

This is a symbolic action that is required by the ordination ceremony as described in [Exodus 29:1–46](../exo/29/01.md). Here, washing with water is part of a ritual cleaning that prepares Aaron and his sons to become priests. If it would be helpful to your readers, consider explaining the significance of this action in a footnote or in the text of your translation. Alternate translation: [and he washed them with water in order to purify them and prepare them to become priests to Yahweh]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicitinfo

וַיִּרְחַ֥ץ אֹתָ֖ם בַּמָּֽיִם׃

and,washed DOM=them (Some words not found in UHB: and,brought_~_forward Mosheh DOM ʼAhₐron and=DOM sons_of,his and,washed DOM=them in/on/at/with,water )

It might seem that the expression and he washed them with water contains extra information that would be unnatural to express in your language. If so, you could use an equivalent expression. See how you translated this expression in [1:9](../01/09.md). Alternate translation: [and he thoroughly washed them]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

8:6 Being washed . . . with water was the first step for cleansing from impurity. The priests had to be ceremonially clean before they could serve the Lord in holiness (Exod 29:4; see Ps 24:4).
