OET (OET-LV) And throw the one sitting on the cloud the sickle of_him on the earth, and was_reaped the earth.
OET (OET-RV) So the one sitting on the cloud swung his sickle across the earth, and the earth was harvested.
In this section, John saw one “like a son of man” seated on a white cloud. This person gathered the people of the earth just as someone harvests grain. Then an angel gathered the grapes of the earth, and squeezed the juice out. The juice represents God’s anger.
Other examples for this section heading are:
The harvest of the earth
The Earth Is Harvested (NCV)
The person on a cloud gathered the people of the earth
This sentence continues using the metaphor that compares gathering people to harvesting grain.
So the One seated on the cloud swung His sickle over the earth,
And the person seated on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth,
So the person who was seated on the cloud moved his harvesting knife over the whole earth,
swung His sickle over the earth: The person probably swung his sickle close to the ground. He reaped the whole earth.
and the earth was harvested.
and the earth was harvested/reaped.
and harvested it.
the earth was harvested: This clause is passive. Some languages must use an active clause. For example:
he gathered the harvest of the earth
harvested the crops (CEV)
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
ἐθερίσθη ἡ γῆ
˓was˒_reaped the earth
If your language does not use this passive form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [he harvested the earth]
OET (OET-LV) And throw the one sitting on the cloud the sickle of_him on the earth, and was_reaped the earth.
OET (OET-RV) So the one sitting on the cloud swung his sickle across the earth, and the earth was harvested.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
