In this figure of speech, Joab actually means to communicate the opposite of the literal meaning of his words. Rather than truly wanting to die, he is defiantly saying that he will not come out of the tent, believing that he will not die if he remains there. If a speaker of your language would not do that, you could translate the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [if you are going to kill me, you are going to have to come in and kill me here]
