BrTrAnd the officer on whose hand the king rested, answered Elisaie, and said, Behold, if the Lord shall make flood-gates in heaven, [fn]might this thing be? and Elisaie said, Behold, thou shalt see with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.

ULTAnd the third officer who belonged to the king, leaning on his hand, answered the man of God, and he said, “Look—Yahweh is making windows in the heavens. Will this thing be?” And he said, “Look at you—seeing with your eyes, but from there, you will not eat.”

USTThe officer accompanying the king said to Elijah, “That cannot happen! Even if Yahweh himself would open the windows of the sky and send grain down to us, that certainly could not happen!” Elisha replied, “Because you said that, you will see it happen, but you will not be able to eat any of the food!”
