uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: translate-ordinal

בְּיוֹם־שְׁלֹשָׁ֥ה עָשָׂ֖ר

in/on=day three ten

Alternate translation: “on the thirteenth day”

Note 2 topic: translate-hebrewmonths

לְחֹ֣דֶשׁ אֲדָ֑ר

of,month_of Adar

Adar is the name of the twelfth and last month of the Hebrew calendar. See how you translated this in 3:7, 3:13, 8:12, 9:1, and 9:15.

בְּאַרְבָּעָ֤ה עָשָׂר֙ בּ֔וֹ וְעָשֹׂ֣ה אֹת֔וֹ י֖וֹם מִשְׁתֶּ֥ה וְשִׂמְחָֽה

in/on/at/with,four ten in/on/over=him/it and,made DOM=him/it day feasting and,joy

Alternate translation: “they devoted the next day, the fourteenth day of the month of Adar, to joyful celebration” or “they feasted joyfully the next day, the fourteenth day of the month of Adar”

Note 3 topic: translate-ordinal

בְּאַרְבָּעָ֤ה עָשָׂר֙ בּ֔וֹ

in/on/at/with,four ten in/on/over=him/it

Alternate translation: “on day 14”

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / hendiadys

מִשְׁתֶּ֥ה וְשִׂמְחָֽה

feasting and,joy

This phrase expresses a single idea by using two words connected with “and.” The word rejoicing tells how they celebrated. Alternate translation: “joyful celebration”

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / synecdoche

מִשְׁתֶּ֥ה

feasting

This is a figure of speech in which a part of something is used to mean the whole thing. The celebrations must have included more than just eating special meals together, but the story uses those meals to refer to the entire celebrations.

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

9:17 they rested, celebrating their victory with a day of feasting and gladness: God is not mentioned, but surely they thanked God on this day for their rescue. This was the beginning of a new festival, later called Purim (9:19-32).
