OET (OET-RV) Then lie on your left side and put the sin of the house of Israel on it; you will carry their sin for the number of the days that you lie down against the house of Israel.
(Occurrence 0) put the sin of the house of Israel on it
(Some words not found in UHB: and=you(ms) lie_down on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in side_of,your the,left and,place DOM iniquity_of house_of Yisrael on/upon/above=him/it number_of the=days which/who lie on/upon/above=him/it bear DOM iniquity_of,their )
This could mean: (1) “symbolically bear the punishment for the sins of the Israelites” or (2) “suffer by lying on your side because of their sin.”
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
(Occurrence 0) the house of Israel
(Some words not found in UHB: and=you(ms) lie_down on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in side_of,your the,left and,place DOM iniquity_of house_of Yisrael on/upon/above=him/it number_of the=days which/who lie on/upon/above=him/it bear DOM iniquity_of,their )
The word “house” is a metonym for the family that lives in the house, in this case the Israelites, the descendants of Jacob over many years. See how you translated this in [Ezekiel 3:1](../03/01.md). Alternate translation: “the Israelites” or “the Israelite people group”
(Occurrence 0) you will carry their sin
(Some words not found in UHB: and=you(ms) lie_down on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in side_of,your the,left and,place DOM iniquity_of house_of Yisrael on/upon/above=him/it number_of the=days which/who lie on/upon/above=him/it bear DOM iniquity_of,their )
This could mean: (1) “you will be guilty of their sin” or (2) “you will be punished for their sin.” Either of these meanings will be demonstrated “symbolically” by Ezekiel as noted in the UST.
(Occurrence 0) lie down against the house of Israel
(Some words not found in UHB: and=you(ms) lie_down on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in side_of,your the,left and,place DOM iniquity_of house_of Yisrael on/upon/above=him/it number_of the=days which/who lie on/upon/above=him/it bear DOM iniquity_of,their )
Alternate translation: “lie facing the kingdom of Israel in a hostile manner”
4:4-8 The prophet’s second sign act was related to the first, but this time he was to act the roles of both God and victims of the siege. As a siege victim, he was tied up with ropes (4:8) and confined to a single position. Possibly Ezekiel was not confined continually during this 14-month period, but performed this sign on a daily basis. As Ezekiel represented Israel, he was to bear Israel’s sins symbolically by lying on one side, without bringing atonement and forgiveness to Israel.
OET (OET-LV) and_you(ms) lie_down on side_of_your the_left and_place DOM the_iniquity_of the_house_of Yisrāʼēl/(Israel) on/upon/above_him/it the_number_of the_days which you_will_lie on/upon/above_him/it you_will_bear DOM iniquity_of_their.
OET (OET-RV) Then lie on your left side and put the sin of the house of Israel on it; you will carry their sin for the number of the days that you lie down against the house of Israel.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
