uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / possession

בֶּ֣גֶד תְּכֵ֗לֶת

cloth_of blue

See how you translated this phrase in [4:7](../04/07.md).

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / possession

אֶת־מְנֹרַ֤ת הַמָּאוֹר֙

DOM lampstand_of the=luminary

Here Yahweh is using the possessive form to describe the lampstand that is used for the light source in the tent of meeting. If your language would not use the possessive form for this, you could use a different expression. Alternate translation: “the lampstand that is used for light”

אֶת־מְנֹרַ֤ת & וְאֶת־נֵ֣רֹתֶ֔יהָ וְאֶת־מַלְקָחֶ֖יהָ וְאֶת־מַחְתֹּתֶ֑יהָ

DOM lampstand_of & and=DOM lamps_of,its and=DOM snuffers_of,its and=DOM trays_of,its

If a translation exists in your language, see how the words lampstand, lamps, snuffers, and trays are translated in [Exodus 25:31](../exo/25/31.md)–[38](../exo/25/38.md).

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / possession

כְּלֵ֣י שַׁמְנָ֔הּ

vessels_of oil_of,its

Here Yahweh is using the possessive form to describe the vessels that contained the oil that was burned in the lamps for producing light. If your language would not use the possessive form for this, you could use a different expression. Alternate translation: “the vessels for its oil”

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / personification

יְשָׁרְתוּ

supplied

Here Yahweh refers to the Levites supplying oil to keep the lamps on the lampstand burning as if the lampstand were a person whom they serve. If it would be helpful in your language, you could express the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: “the provide oil to”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

4:1-49 This section expands the discussion begun in 3:21-37 on the duties of the three clans of Levites. The Levites—on the march and encamped—carried and cared for the Tabernacle and were always surrounded by the other tribes so that they and their precious cargo would be safe (2:17). The sacred things associated with God were placed in the middle of the tribes, and the role of the priests and their Levitical assistants was to keep them holy by keeping them separate.
• God, in his holiness, is worthy of attention to the details of his will. His Tabernacle and its furnishings were sacred, and the tribe of Levi was responsible to maintain the distinction between holy and common, between clean and unclean. This explains why so much information is provided about the duties of the three clans of Levites.
