OET (OET-LV)I_became in the_spirit on the master’s day, and I_heard behind me a_voice loud like of_a_trumpet

OET (OET-RV)One Sunday while meditating, God’s spirit gave me a vision, and I heard a voice behind me that seemed as loud as a trumpet blast

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

ἐγενόμην ἐν Πνεύματι

˱I˲_became in /the/_Spirit

Here, in the Spirit could mean: (1) God’s Spirit, the Holy Spirit, influenced John so that he could receive divine revelation. Alternate translation: [The Holy Spirit influenced me] (2) God caused John’s spirit to be in a state in which he could perceive revelation. Alternate translation: [God influenced my spirit]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

ἐν τῇ Κυριακῇ ἡμέρᾳ

in on the Lord's day

Here, the Lord’s day means the first day of the week, which was the day on which believers gathered to worship because that was the day on which Jesus rose from the dead. In your translation, you could use the term in your language for the first day of the week. Alternate translation: [one Sunday]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / simile

φωνὴν μεγάλην ὡς σάλπιγγος

/a/_voice loud like ˱of˲_/a/_trumpet

The point of this comparison is not that the sound of the voice was like the sound of a trumpet but that the voice was loud like a trumpet. If it would be helpful in your language, you could make this point explicitly. Alternate translation: [a voice as loud as a trumpet]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

φωνὴν μεγάλην

/a/_voice loud

John is referring to someone speaking by association with the voice that the person is using to speak. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or express the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [someone speaking loudly]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

1:10 the Lord’s Day: This designation was used in the Roman world to refer to celebrations in honor of Caesar, but Christians used it to refer to their weekly worship, celebrating Jesus’ resurrection. The earliest Christians worshiped in Jewish synagogues on the Sabbath, the last day of the week (Acts 18:4), but by the time of Revelation, they were excluded from synagogues and gathered on the day that commemorated the resurrection, the first day of the week (see study note on Luke 24:1; see also Acts 20:7).
• The loud voice like a trumpet blast was an announcement of the Lord’s coming.
