OET (OET-RV) Everyone who wants to understand needs to listen to what God’s spirit is saying to the assemblies.
In this section, Jesus spoke to the people who believed in him at Laodicea. He knew that they believed in him but they were not serving him well. He warned them to stop being lazy and encouraged them to work properly for him. Lastly, he gave a promise to any believer who persevered in his faith.
Translate this section heading as you did for the other messages to the churches.
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
If/since you(plur) have ears, then hear the things that the Spirit is saying to the churches.
Everyone who has ears that can hear should give careful attention to what the Holy Spirit says to the gatherings of believers.
Whoever is able to hear should understand and heed/obey what God’s Spirit says to the communities of God’s people.
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches: Translate this command as you did in 3:13.
In this division, God showed John things in heaven (chapter 4) and events that would happen in the future. John saw the vision of the sealed scroll and Jesus, called “the Lamb” (chapter 5). John saw the results of the scroll being opened (chapter 6). He saw the vision of seven trumpets and the results of six of them being blown (chapters 8–9). He saw the vision of an angel and a small scroll (chapter 10). He saw the vision of two witnesses and the results of the seventh trumpet being blown (chapter 11). He saw the vision of a woman and a dragon (chapter 12). He saw the vision of two beasts (chapter 13). He saw the vision of 144,000 believers and the vision of the earth harvested (chapter 14). He saw the vision of the seven bowls (chapters 15–16). John heard the prophecy about Babylon and the prophecy about the wedding of the Lamb (chapter 17–19). He heard the prophecy about Jesus reigning as king and the prophecy about Satan’s last rebellion (20:1–10). He saw the vision of God judging the dead (20:11–15). Lastly, John saw the vision of a new heaven and earth and a new Jerusalem.

ὁ ἔχων οὖς, ἀκουσάτω
(Some words not found in SR-GNT: Ὁ ἔχων οὖς ἀκουσάτω τί τό Πνεῦμα λέγει ταῖς ἐκκλησίαις)
See how you translated this phrase in [2:7](../02/07.md).
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / 123person
ὁ ἔχων οὖς, ἀκουσάτω
(Some words not found in SR-GNT: Ὁ ἔχων οὖς ἀκουσάτω τί τό Πνεῦμα λέγει ταῖς ἐκκλησίαις)
See how you translated this phrase in [2:7](../02/07.md).
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom
τὸ Πνεῦμα
(Some words not found in SR-GNT: Ὁ ἔχων οὖς ἀκουσάτω τί τό Πνεῦμα λέγει ταῖς ἐκκλησίαις)
Here, the Spirit most likely refers to God’s Spirit, or simply the Holy Spirit of God’s triune nature, in contrast to the spirit of the writer or author which one finds in [1:10](../01/10.md). In other words, the Holy Spirit addresses the messages and contents of each letter written to each of the seven churches which are addressed in chapters two and three (See: Revelation 2:7, 11, 17, 29: 3:6, 13, 22). See the chapter introductions for chapter 2 and for chapter 3 to read this same explanatory note.
3:14-22 The letter to the church in Laodicea castigates lukewarm Christians whose inconsistent lives stand for nothing but themselves. They sicken Christ to the point of his spitting them from his mouth.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
