OET (OET-LV)I_have_known of_you the works.
Behold, I_have_given before you a_door having_been_opened_up, which no_one is_able to_shut it, because little you_are_having power, and_yet you_kept of_me the message, and not you_disowned the name of_me.

OET (OET-RV)“I know everything you’ve been doing. Listen, I have placed an opened door in front of you that no one can shut. You aren’t very strong, yet you’ve obeyed my instructions and you haven’t disowned knowing me.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / infostructure

ἰδοὺ, δέδωκα ἐνώπιόν σου θύραν ἠνεῳγμένην, ἣν οὐδεὶς δύναται κλεῖσαι αὐτήν

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: Οἶδα σοῦ τά ἔργα Ἰδού δέδωκα ἐνώπιον σοῦ θύραν ἀνεῳγμένην ἥν οὐδείς δύναται κλεῖσαι αὐτήν ὅτι μικράν ἔχεις δύναμιν καί ἐτήρησας μού τόν λόγον καί οὐκ ἠρνήσω τό ὄνομα μού)

In order to keep what Jesus says he knows about the believers in Philadelphia together with the phrase I know your works, you may wish to move this statement to the end of the verse and make it a separate sentence.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

δέδωκα ἐνώπιόν σου θύραν ἠνεῳγμένην

˱I˲_˓have˒_given (Some words not found in SR-GNT: Οἶδα σοῦ τά ἔργα Ἰδού δέδωκα ἐνώπιον σοῦ θύραν ἀνεῳγμένην ἥν οὐδείς δύναται κλεῖσαι αὐτήν ὅτι μικράν ἔχεις δύναμιν καί ἐτήρησας μού τόν λόγον καί οὐκ ἠρνήσω τό ὄνομα μού)

This opened door could symbolize: (1) an opportunity to proclaim the gospel or (2) entrance into everlasting life with Jesus. However, since the image of the door continues the image of the key from the previous verse, you may wish to retain the image by translating the phrase I have put before you an opened door directly.

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

δέδωκα ἐνώπιόν σου θύραν ἠνεῳγμένην

˱I˲_˓have˒_given (Some words not found in SR-GNT: Οἶδα σοῦ τά ἔργα Ἰδού δέδωκα ἐνώπιον σοῦ θύραν ἀνεῳγμένην ἥν οὐδείς δύναται κλεῖσαι αὐτήν ὅτι μικράν ἔχεις δύναμιν καί ἐτήρησας μού τόν λόγον καί οὐκ ἠρνήσω τό ὄνομα μού)

If your language does not use this passive form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [I have opened a door before you]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

δέδωκα ἐνώπιόν σου θύραν ἠνεῳγμένην

˱I˲_˓have˒_given (Some words not found in SR-GNT: Οἶδα σοῦ τά ἔργα Ἰδού δέδωκα ἐνώπιον σοῦ θύραν ἀνεῳγμένην ἥν οὐδείς δύναται κλεῖσαι αὐτήν ὅτι μικράν ἔχεις δύναμιν καί ἐτήρησας μού τόν λόγον καί οὐκ ἠρνήσω τό ὄνομα μού)

Here the word before means “in front of.” The implication is that the believers in Philadelphia can go through this door, since it is open right in front of them. Alternate translation: [I have opened a door in front of you that you can go through]

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / explicitinfo

ἣν οὐδεὶς δύναται κλεῖσαι αὐτήν

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: Οἶδα σοῦ τά ἔργα Ἰδού δέδωκα ἐνώπιον σοῦ θύραν ἀνεῳγμένην ἥν οὐδείς δύναται κλεῖσαι αὐτήν ὅτι μικράν ἔχεις δύναμιν καί ἐτήρησας μού τόν λόγον καί οὐκ ἠρνήσω τό ὄνομα μού)

It might seem that this expression contains extra information that would be unnatural to express in your language. If so, you can shorten it. Alternate translation: [that no one is able to shut]

Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

ἐτήρησάς μου τὸν λόγον

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: Οἶδα σοῦ τά ἔργα Ἰδού δέδωκα ἐνώπιον σοῦ θύραν ἀνεῳγμένην ἥν οὐδείς δύναται κλεῖσαι αὐτήν ὅτι μικράν ἔχεις δύναμιν καί ἐτήρησας μού τόν λόγον καί οὐκ ἠρνήσω τό ὄνομα μού)

Jesus is using the term word to mean the commandments he has given by using words. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [you have obeyed my commandments]

Note 7 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

οὐκ ἠρνήσω τὸ ὄνομά μου

not ˱you˲_disowned (Some words not found in SR-GNT: Οἶδα σοῦ τά ἔργα Ἰδού δέδωκα ἐνώπιον σοῦ θύραν ἀνεῳγμένην ἥν οὐδείς δύναται κλεῖσαι αὐτήν ὅτι μικράν ἔχεις δύναμιν καί ἐτήρησας μού τόν λόγον καί οὐκ ἠρνήσω τό ὄνομα μού)

Here, name represents a person by association with the way that each person has a name. Alternate translation: [you have not denied me]

Note 8 topic: figures-of-speech / doublenegatives

οὐκ ἠρνήσω τὸ ὄνομά μου

not ˱you˲_disowned (Some words not found in SR-GNT: Οἶδα σοῦ τά ἔργα Ἰδού δέδωκα ἐνώπιον σοῦ θύραν ἀνεῳγμένην ἥν οὐδείς δύναται κλεῖσαι αὐτήν ὅτι μικράν ἔχεις δύναμιν καί ἐτήρησας μού τόν λόγον καί οὐκ ἠρνήσω τό ὄνομα μού)

If it would be clearer in your language, you could use a positive expression to translate this double negative that consists of the negative particle not and the negative verb denied. Alternate translation: [you have acknowledged me] or [you have acknowledged that you believe in me]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

3:8 I know: See study note on 2:2-3.
• little strength: Like the city of Philadelphia itself (see study note on 3:7), the Christians there were not prosperous, and they lacked status and power. But Christ had opened a door for them (see 3:7) to claim his status and authority. In spite of their weakness, the Philadelphia church obeyed Christ’s word and did not deny him under pressure.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.

Acknowledgements: The SR Greek text, lemmas, morphology, and VLT gloss are all thanks to the CNTR.
