TSNTyndale Study Notes:

4:17-20 Sisera felt that he was back in friendly circles (cp. 4:11). A woman whose husband was absent would normally invite a man into her tent only for sex, but Sisera would have interpreted this invitation as an opportunity for safe haven. Jael did nothing to shake his confidence as she concealed and refreshed him.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / quotesinquotes

וּשְׁאֵלֵ֗ךְ וְאָמַ֛ר הֲיֵֽשׁ־פֹּ֥ה אִ֖ישׁ וְאָמַ֥רְתְּ אָֽיִן

and,asks,you and=saying(ms) ?,is here (a)_man and,say no

If it would be clearer in your language, you could translate this so that there is not a quotation within a quotation. Alternate translation: [and asks you whether there is anyone here, then tell him that there is not]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicitinfo

וּשְׁאֵלֵ֗ךְ וְאָמַ֛ר

and,asks,you and=saying(ms)

It might seem that this expression contains extra information that would be unnatural to express in your language. If so, you can shorten it. Alternate translation: [asks you] or [says to you]
