ClVg Surrexit, et abiit in Sarephta. Cumque venisset ad portam civitatis, apparuit ei mulier vidua colligens ligna, et vocavit eam, dixitque ei: Da mihi paululum aquæ in vase ut bibam.[fn]
(Surrexit, and he_went/is_gone in/into/on Sarephta. And_when had_come to the_gate of_the_city, appeared to_him woman a_widow neckgens wood, and he_called her, he_saidque to_him: Give to_me a_little water in/into/on vessele as bibam. )
17.10 Mulier. ISID.
17.10 Mulier. ISID. Vidua how Master not/no grain, but verbi pane feeds, them it_is, quæ, dead viro, to_whom wants nubat, id it_is, excusso slavestutis yugo, subit of_Christ yoke/collar sweet, and onus leve. RAB. This a_widow nations means Assembly/Churchm, etc., until to not/no defecisse it_is_said. ID. Vidua at how hospitabatur Elias, and whose blessed farinæ and with_oil, synagogue it_is Yudæorum, which Mosi death a_widowta, son nutriebat parvulum, this it_is carnalem the_people Yudæorum. Here/This to ingressum Eliæ, id it_is Saviour our, febre infidelitatis weakbatur, because in/into/on him not/no credidit, but sprevit. Whence mother Synagoga from/about adventu Saviour conqueritur, as_if exactly_that/himself was cause killedonis of_the_people, saying: What to_me and to_you, etc. Hence it_is that Caiphas he_said: Expedit to_you as one moriatur for to_the_people, and not/no the_whole gens pereat Yoan. 11.. ID. Like a_prophet with_words widows not/no it_is exasperatus, because rather to_be_pitied, so/thus Redemptor our not/no exasperatur malitia Yudæorum, but misertus self of_the_people took him from/about pocket mother, when/with took him from/about carnali observantia law, and put over bed his_own, this it_is, demonstravit to_him life to_have in/into/on death his_own, expanditque himself tribe vicibus, while Trinitatis faith insinuabat.

17:9-16 Elijah’s faith was tested further. At Kerith Brook, God had supplied his needs directly. With these supplies cut off, Elijah now had to depend on a foreign woman’s response to a divine test. The account details the setting (17:8-10a), Elijah’s test for the widow (17:10b-14), the woman’s compliance, and God’s reward (17:15-16).
