MSG ^(6-8)Christ arrives right on time to make this happen. He didn’t, and doesn’t, wait for us to get ready. He presented himself for this sacrificial death when we were far too weak and rebellious to do anything to get ourselves ready. And even if we hadn’t been so weak, we wouldn’t have known what to do anyway. We can understand someone dying for a person worth dying for, and we can understand how someone good and noble could inspire us to selfless sacrifice. But God put his love on the line for us by offering his Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to him.

5.8 Since adhuc. Behold dum oderat after/second peccata, amabat after/second that opus his: that and he_did before mundi constitutionem. Dicendum was quantum we he_loved, not desperaremus; and quales, not superbiremus. Fuit and alius modus possibilis Deo who everything potest, but nullus nostræ miseriæ sanandæ convenientior. Quid because we only erigit, and from desperatione immortalitatis liberat, how that tanti we fecit, as human for us would_die?

Paul uses the word his own to emphasize how much God loves his people. Use a way that is natural in your language to indicate this emphasis. Alternate translation: “his very own” or “his personal”

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea of love, you could express the same idea with a verbal form. Alternate translation: “how much God loves us”

In this clause Paul is describing something that was true during the time period he is describing in the rest of the verse. You can make this clear in your translation with an appropriate connecting word or phrase. Alternate translation: “during the time we were still being sinners”
