OET (OET-LV)saying to_them:
Men, I_am_perceiving that the voyage to_be_going going_to_be with damage and much loss, not only of_the cargo and to_the ship, but also the lives of_us.

OET (OET-RV)telling them, “Men, I perceive that we’re going to encounter a lot of damage on this voyage, with loss not only of the cargo and the ship, but also our lives.”

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

θεωρῶ

˱I˲_˓am˒_perceiving

Paul is speaking as if he could literally see the things he describes. He means that God has revealed them to him. If it would be clearer in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [God has revealed to me]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

μετὰ ὕβρεως καὶ πολλῆς ζημίας, οὐ μόνον τοῦ φορτίου καὶ τοῦ πλοίου, ἀλλὰ καὶ τῶν ψυχῶν ἡμῶν, μέλλειν ἔσεσθαι τὸν πλοῦν

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: λέγων αὐτοῖς Ἄνδρες θεωρῶ ὅτι μετά ὕβρεως καί πολλῆς ζημίας οὒ μόνον τοῦ φορτίου καί τοῦ πλοίου ἀλλά καί τῶν ψυχῶν ἡμῶν μέλλειν ἔσεσθαι τόν πλοῦν)

If your language does not use abstract nouns for the ideas of injury and loss, you could express the same ideas in other ways. It may be helpful to make this two sentences. Alternate translation: [on this voyage, many of us will be injured and we will lose many valuable things. We will not only lose the cargo and the ship, we will lose our lives]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

27:10-11 Paul realized what would happen if they went on. He warned the ship’s officers, but they and the Roman officer were unlikely to listen to an imprisoned Jewish rabbi with no experience as a seaman. Later, however, they would respect him more (27:30-36, 42-43).

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.

Acknowledgements: The SR Greek text, lemmas, morphology, and VLT gloss are all thanks to the CNTR.
