OET (OET-RV)In the recent past, even when Shaul was king, you were the one who took Yisrael out and the one who brought us back in. Plus your God Yahweh told you, ‘You yourself will shepherd my people, Yisrael, and you yourself will become leader of my Israeli people.’ ”

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: writing-background

(Occurrence 0) In the recent past

(Some words not found in UHB: also/yet yesterday also/yet before also/yet in/on/at/with,was Shāʼūl/(Saul) king you(ms) the,led_out and,the,brought_in DOM Yisrael and=he/it_said YHWH God_of,your to/for=yourself(m) you(ms) shepherd DOM people_of,my DOM Yisrael and=you(ms) you(ms)_will_be ruler on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in people_of,my Yisrael )

This is historical information. Saul had been their king before David.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism

(Occurrence 0) You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will become a ruler over my people Israel

These two clauses mean basically the same thing and emphasize that Yahweh had chosen David to be king.

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

(Occurrence 0) You will shepherd my people Israel

(Some words not found in UHB: also/yet yesterday also/yet before also/yet in/on/at/with,was Shāʼūl/(Saul) king you(ms) the,led_out and,the,brought_in DOM Yisrael and=he/it_said YHWH God_of,your to/for=yourself(m) you(ms) shepherd DOM people_of,my DOM Yisrael and=you(ms) you(ms)_will_be ruler on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in people_of,my Yisrael )

Here ruling over the people is spoken of as shepherding them. Alternate translation: “‘You will care for my people Israel” or “You will lead my people Israel”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

11:1-3 David first became king of Judah at Hebron and ruled there 7½ years (3:4; 2 Sam 5:5). The Chronicler omits the account of that period (see 2 Sam 2–4) and focuses on David’s reign over the entire nation for 33½ years, beginning with his covenant . . . with all the elders of Israel at Hebron (see 2 Sam 5:1-5).

OET (OET-LV)Both yesterday as_well_as three_days_ago also in/on/at/with_was Shāʼūl king you the_led_out and_the_brought_in DOM Yisrāʼēl/(Israel) and_ YHWH _he/it_said god_of_your to/for_yourself(m) you you_will_shepherd DOM people_of_my DOM Yisrāʼēl/(Israel) and_you(ms) you_will_be ruler over people_of_my Yisrāʼēl/(Israel).

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.

Acknowledgements: The Hebrew text, lemmas, and morphology are all thanks to the OSHB and some of the glosses are from Macula Hebrew.
