OET (OET-LV) thus my_master he_says YHWH because acted ʼEdōm by_avenging_itself vengeance to_the_house_of Yəhūdāh and_they_have_become_guilty exceedingly_(be_guilty) and_they_have_avenged_themselves on_them.
OET (OET-RV) The master Yahweh also says, ‘Edom has taken vengeance against the kingdom of Yehudah and has done wrong by doing that.
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns
יַ֣עַן עֲשׂ֥וֹת אֱד֛וֹם
because to_make ʼEdōm
If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea of doing, you could express the same idea in another way. Alternate translation: [Because of what Edom did]
Note 2 topic: writing-poetry
בִּנְקֹ֥ם נָקָ֖ם
by,avenging_itself vengeance
Yahweh is using a construction in which a verb and its object come from the same root. You may be able to use the same construction in your language to express the meaning here. Alternatively, your language may have another way of saying this.
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / reduplication
וַיֶּאְשְׁמ֥וּ אָשׁ֖וֹם
and,they_have_become_guilty to_be_guilty
Yahweh is repeating forms of the verb translated as guilty in order to intensify his expression of the idea that it conveys. If your language can repeat words for intensification, it would be appropriate to do that here in your translation. If not, your language may have another way of expressing the intensification. Alternate translation: [and they became very guilty]
Note 4 topic: writing-pronouns
וְנִקְּמ֥וּ בָהֶֽם
and,they_have_avenged_themselves on,them
The pronoun they refers to the people of Edom, and the pronoun them refers to the people of Judah. It may be helpful to clarify this for your readers. Alternate translation: [and the people of Edom took vengeance on the people of Judah]
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
Acknowledgements: The Hebrew text, lemmas, and morphology are all thanks to the OSHB and some of the glosses are from Macula Hebrew.
