The author is using a construction in which a verb and its object come from the same root. You may be able to use the same construction in your language to express the meaning here. Alternatively, your language may have another way of saying this. In this context, the idea is that Yahweh testified against the Israelites the way someone would testify against another person in court. Yahweh sent the prophets to give evidence that the Israelites had broken his covenant and needed to change the way they were acting. Alternate translation: [and the evidence that his prophets brought against them]
