OET (OET-LV) and_at his/its_hand the_men_of they_built of_Yərīḩō/(Jericho) and_at his/its_hand Zakkūr he_built the_son_of ʼImrī.
OET (OET-RV) The men from Yericho rebuilt the section beside them, and Imri’s son Zakkur rebuilt the next section again.
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom
וְעַל־יָד֥וֹ בָנ֖וּ
and,at his/its=hand built
Here, at his hand is a figurative way of saying “beside him” or “next to him.” This expression occurs several times in this chapter. It would be helpful to your readers to translate it consistently. Alternate translation: “next to them”
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / gendernotations
אַנְשֵׁ֣י יְרֵח֑וֹ
men_of Yərīḩō/(Jericho)
The word men here can include women, and it does seem to include them in this context. Elsewhere in this chapter, 3:12 tells us that “Shallum and his daughters repaired part of the wall.” So we know that both men and women worked on this project. Alternate translation: “people from Jericho”
Note 3 topic: translate-names
יְרֵח֑וֹ
Yərīḩō/(Jericho)
Jericho is the name of one of the cities in Judah. We see from this chapter that several cities and towns sent work parties to help rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.
Note 4 topic: translate-names
זַכּ֖וּר בֶּן־אִמְרִֽי
Zakkūr son_of ʼImrī
Zaccur is the name of a man, and Imri is the name of his father.
3:1-32 This summary of the people who rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem moves in a circle around the city, starting at the northeast corner and moving west, then south, east, and north.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
Acknowledgements: The Hebrew text, lemmas, and morphology are all thanks to the OSHB and some of the glosses are from Macula Hebrew.
