OET (OET-LV)after_him brothers_of_their they_repaired Baūy the_son_of Ḩēnādād the_official_of (the)_half_of the_district_of Qəˊīlāh.

OET (OET-RV)then Henadad’s son Bavvai the administrator for the other half of the Keilah district.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

הֶחֱזִ֣יקוּ אֲחֵיהֶ֔ם

repaired brothers_of,their

As in 3:1, brother could mean the biological brothers of the Levites mentioned in 3:17. However, more likely it means other Levites. Alternate translation: “some other Levites repaired more of the wall”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / ellipsis

בַּוַּ֖י בֶּן־חֵנָדָ֑ד שַׂ֕ר חֲצִ֖י פֶּ֥לֶךְ קְעִילָֽה

Binnūy son_of Ḩēnādād chief half_of district_of Qəˊīlāh

Here Nehemiah does not say “at their hand” (next to them) or “strengthened” (repaired another section of the wall). Once again he is leaving out some of what a complete sentence would be expected to contain. you could fill in this information. Alternate translation: “Next to them, Binnui the son of Henadad, who ruled the other half of the district of Keilah, repaired more of the wall.”

Note 3 topic: translate-names

בַּוַּ֖י בֶּן־חֵנָדָ֑ד

Binnūy son_of Ḩēnādād

Binnui is the name of a man, and Henadad is the name of his father.

Note 4 topic: translate-names

שַׂ֕ר חֲצִ֖י פֶּ֥לֶךְ קְעִילָֽה

chief half_of district_of Qəˊīlāh

This is the name of one of the districts into which the city and the surrounding area were divided.

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

3:1-32 This summary of the people who rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem moves in a circle around the city, starting at the northeast corner and moving west, then south, east, and north.
