OET (OET-LV) And_she/it_saw the_donkey DOM the_messenger_of YHWH standing in_road and_sword_of_his was_drawn in_his/its_hand and_it_turned_aside the_donkey from the_road and_it_went in_the_field and_ Bilˊām _he_struck DOM the_donkey to_turn_it the_road.
OET (OET-RV) the donkey saw Yahweh’s messenger standing there holding a sword in the middle of the road and turned off the road and went into a field. So Bileam whacked the donkey and forced it back onto the road.
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
וְחַרְבּ֤וֹ שְׁלוּפָה֙ בְּיָד֔וֹ
and,sword_of,his drawn in=his/its=hand
The expression being drawn is a passive verbal form. If it would be unnatural to use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [and he had drawn his sword in his hand]
Note 2 topic: grammar-connect-logic-goal
וַיַּ֤ךְ בִּלְעָם֙ אֶת־הָ֣אָת֔וֹן לְהַטֹּתָ֖הּ הַדָּֽרֶךְ
and,he_struck Bilˊām DOM the,donkey to,turn,it the,road
Here, the phrase to turn her aside to the way marks the purpose for which Balaam struck the donkey. Use a connector in your language that makes it clear that this is the purpose.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
