Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
(Occurrence 0) Do not pollute in this way the land where you live, because blood from murder pollutes the land
(Some words not found in UHB: and=not pollute DOM the=earth/land which/who you(pl) in/on/at/with,her that/for/because/then/when the,blood he/it pollutes DOM the=earth/land and,for_the,land not atonement_~_made for_the,blood which/who shed in/on/at/with,it that/for/because/then/when if in/on/at/with,blood_of shed_of,it )
Making the land unacceptable to Yahweh is spoken of as if it were physically polluting the land. Alternate translation: “Do not make the land where you live unacceptable to me in this way, because blood from murder makes the land unacceptable to me”
(Occurrence 0) in this way
(Some words not found in UHB: and=not pollute DOM the=earth/land which/who you(pl) in/on/at/with,her that/for/because/then/when the,blood he/it pollutes DOM the=earth/land and,for_the,land not atonement_~_made for_the,blood which/who shed in/on/at/with,it that/for/because/then/when if in/on/at/with,blood_of shed_of,it )
This means by disobeying the laws concerning a person who kills someone.
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
(Occurrence 0) No atonement can be made for the land when blood has been shed on it, except by the blood of the one who shed it
(Some words not found in UHB: and=not pollute DOM the=earth/land which/who you(pl) in/on/at/with,her that/for/because/then/when the,blood he/it pollutes DOM the=earth/land and,for_the,land not atonement_~_made for_the,blood which/who shed in/on/at/with,it that/for/because/then/when if in/on/at/with,blood_of shed_of,it )
This refers to when a person intentionally kills another person. If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you can state this in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “When someone has shed blood in the land, only the execution of the murderer can make atonement for the land”
35:33 for murder pollutes the land: If the slayer in either a homicide or involuntary manslaughter were not dealt with as commanded, God regarded the land as polluted, because human bloodshed required death (Gen 4:10-11; 9:6; contrast Exod 21:29-30; see also Lev 18:28; Ezek 36:17-18; Hos 4:2-3). In its stern warning about the evil of murder, this entire passage highlights the absolute value of human life (Exod 20:13).

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
