Note 1 topic: grammar-connect-logic-result
וַיִּפְקֹ֥ד אֹתָ֛ם מֹשֶׁ֖ה
and,he_enrolled DOM=them Mosheh
The word And indicates that what follows is a result of what came before. Use a connector in your language that makes it clear that what follows is a result of what came before. Alternate translation: [As a result, Moses counted them]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicitinfo
עַל־פִּ֣י יְהוָ֑ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר צֻוָּֽה
on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in word_of YHWH just=as commanded
It might seem that the expression upon the mouth of Yahweh, just as he was commanded contains extra information that would not be natural to express in your language. If so, you can shorten it. Alternate translation: [exactly as he was commanded by Yahweh]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom
עַל־פִּ֣י יְהוָ֑ה
on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in word_of YHWH
The author is using upon the mouth of Yahweh as a common expression of his culture to mean “according to what Yahweh said.” If this phrase does not have that meaning in your language, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [as Yahweh had said]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
צֻוָּֽה
commanded
The expression he was commanded is a passive verbal form. If your language would not use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. If you need to say who does the action, the context indicates that it is God. Alternate translation: [Yahweh commanded him]
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
Acknowledgements: The Hebrew text, lemmas, and morphology are all thanks to the OSHB and some of the glosses are from Macula Hebrew.
