OET (OET-LV) And_they_came the_messengers Giⱱˊāh of_Shāʼūl/(Saul) and_they_spoke the_words/messages in_the_ears_of the_people and_ all_of _they_lifted_up the_people DOM voice_of_their and_they_wept.
OET (OET-RV) When the messengers arrived where Sha’ul lived at Gibeah and passed the news onto the people, everyone started wailing loudly.
Note 1 topic: translate-names
גִּבְעַ֣ת שָׁא֔וּל
Giⱱˊāh Shāʼūl/(Saul)
See the discussion of the name of this city in the note to [10:5](../10/05.md). Alternate translation: [to the city named Gibeah where Saul lived]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
וַיְדַבְּר֥וּ הַדְּבָרִ֖ים בְּאָזְנֵ֣י הָעָ֑ם
and,they_spoke the,words in,the_ears_of of,the_people
The author is using the term words by association to mean what the messengers said by using words, and he is using the ears of the people to represent them hearing. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [and they had the people listen to their message]
Note 3 topic: grammar-collectivenouns
וַיִּשְׂא֧וּ כָל־הָעָ֛ם אֶת־קוֹלָ֖ם וַיִּבְכּֽוּ
and,they_lifted_up all the,people DOM voice_of,their and,they_wept
Since the author is referring to a group of people, it might be more natural in your language to use the plural form of voice. Alternate translation: [And all of the people lifted up their voices and wept]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
וַיִּשְׂא֧וּ כָל־הָעָ֛ם אֶת־קוֹלָ֖ם וַיִּבְכּֽוּ
and,they_lifted_up all the,people DOM voice_of,their and,they_wept
The author is speaking as if a voice were an object that the people could have lifted up. He means that the people increased the volume of their voices. If it would be clearer in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [And all of the people increased the volume of their voices and wept]
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / hendiadys
וַיִּשְׂא֧וּ כָל־הָעָ֛ם אֶת־קוֹלָ֖ם וַיִּבְכּֽוּ
and,they_lifted_up all the,people DOM voice_of,their and,they_wept
This phrase expresses a single idea by using two words connected with and. The expression lifted up their voice tells in what way the people wept. Alternate translation: [And all of the people wept loudly]
11:1-15 Saul’s kingship was confirmed through a military victory, the very reason the people wanted a king (8:20).
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
