OET (OET-LV)And_pressed_hard the_battle against Shāʼūl and_found_him the_archers men in/on/at/with_bow and_wounded exceedingly by_the_archers.

OET (OET-RV)Then the battle was fierce around Sha’ul, then the Philistine archers sighted him and he writhed in terrible pain from the arrows.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

וַתִּכְבַּ֤ד הַמִּלְחָמָה֙ אֶל־שָׁא֔וּל

and,pressed_hard the,battle to/towards Shāʼūl

The author is speaking of the battle as if it were a heavy physical weight pressing down on Saul. If it would be clearer in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [And the Philistines fought fiercely against Saul]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

וַיִּמְצָאֻ֥הוּ הַמּוֹרִ֖ים אֲנָשִׁ֣ים בַּקָּ֑שֶׁת & מֵהַמּוֹרִֽים

and,found,him the,archers men in/on/at/with,bow & by,the,archers

Since the term shooters could describe either soldiers throwing javelins or soldiers launching arrows, the author adds the phrase the men with the bow to clarify his meaning. Your language may have a single term that you can use in your translation. Alternate translation: [And the archers … from the archers]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

וַיָּ֥חֶל מְאֹ֖ד מֵהַמּוֹרִֽים

and,wounded very by,the,archers

By this phrase, the author means that Saul was in great pain because the archers had wounded him with arrows. You could indicate this explicitly in your translation if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [And he writhed greatly in pain because the archers had wounded him with arrows]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

31:1-13 While David was in the south successfully fighting the Amalekites (ch 30), Saul was in the north unsuccessfully fighting the Philistines.
