Note 1 topic: writing-pronouns
וַיַּגִּ֤דוּ לְדָוִד֙
(Some words not found in UHB: and,people_told to,David and,he_sent to,meet,them that/for/because/then/when they_were the,men humiliated very and=he/it_said the=king stay in,Jericho until grown beard_of,your(pl) and,you(pl)_will_return )
Here the author is using the pronoun they in a general sense, not to refer to specific people. Use an expression for this that would be natural in your language. Alternate translation: [Someone declared to David] or [David was told]
Note 2 topic: grammar-connect-logic-result
וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח לִקְרָאתָ֔ם כִּֽי־הָי֥וּ הָאֲנָשִׁ֖ים נִכְלָמִ֣ים מְאֹ֑ד
(Some words not found in UHB: and,people_told to,David and,he_sent to,meet,them that/for/because/then/when they_were the,men humiliated very and=he/it_said the=king stay in,Jericho until grown beard_of,your(pl) and,you(pl)_will_return )
If it would be more natural in your language, you could reverse the order of these phrases, since the second phrase gives the reason for the result that the first phrase describes. Alternate translation: [and since the men were greatly humiliated, he sent to meet them]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
הָי֥וּ הָאֲנָשִׁ֖ים נִכְלָמִ֣ים מְאֹ֑ד
they_were (Some words not found in UHB: and,people_told to,David and,he_sent to,meet,them that/for/because/then/when they_were the,men humiliated very and=he/it_said the=king stay in,Jericho until grown beard_of,your(pl) and,you(pl)_will_return )
The expression were greatly humiliated is a passive verbal form. If your language would not use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [this had greatly humiliated the men]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
וַיֹּ֤אמֶר הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ֙
(Some words not found in UHB: and,people_told to,David and,he_sent to,meet,them that/for/because/then/when they_were the,men humiliated very and=he/it_said the=king stay in,Jericho until grown beard_of,your(pl) and,you(pl)_will_return )
The author is saying the king to mean his messengers, who were speaking on his behalf. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or plain language. Alternate translation: [And the king’s messengers told them]
OET (OET-LV) And_people_told to_Dāvid and_he_sent to_meet_them if/because they_were the_men humiliated exceedingly and_he/it_said the_king remain in_Yərīḩō/(Jericho) until it_will_grow_back beard_of_your(pl) and_you(pl)_will_return.
OET (OET-RV) They sent messengers ahead to tell David because they were very humiliated, and the king told them to stay in Yeriho before returning when their beards grew back.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
