When the author says that the nose of Yahweh added to burn, he is using two common expressions of his culture See how you translated the expressions “nose” and “burn” in [6:7](../06/07.md) and the expression “added” in [3:34](../03/34.md). Alternate translation: [And Yahweh became angry with Israel again] or [And Yahweh continued to be angry with Israel]
Note 2 topic: writing-quotations
לֵאמֹ֔ר לֵ֛ךְ מְנֵ֥ה אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל וְאֶת־יְהוּדָֽה
to=say go count DOM (Some words not found in UHB: and,it_repeated also/though YHWH to,burn on,Israel and,he_incited DOM Dāvid (is)_in=them to=say go count DOM Yisrael and=DOM Yehuda )
It seems unlikely that this is a direct quotation of something that Yahweh said, since Yahweh would not command someone to do something and then punish that person for doing it. This could mean: (1) that the author is summarizing here what he quotes David more fully as saying in the next verse. Alternate translation: [so that David said, “Go, count Israel and Judah]; (2) that the author is depicting Yahweh as having said something in order to convey the idea that Yahweh led that person to do that thing. This would be similar to [16:10](../16/10.md), where David says of Shimei, “If he curses because Yahweh has said to him, ‘Curse David,’” meaning, “If he curses because Yahweh has led him to curse me.” Alternate translation: [leading him to go and count Israel and Judah]

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
