Here, the heart represents a person’s feelings. This could mean: (1) that David felt hostile toward Absalom. That is the meaning in [Daniel 11:28](../../dan/11/28.md), the only other instance of this expression in the Bible. The rest of this chapter shows that David had to be persuaded through an elaborate ruse to allow Absalom to return to Jerusalem, and even then he would not allow him to come into his presence. Alternate translation: [that King David felt hostile toward Absalom]; (2) that David was longing to see Absalom. Many versions follow this interpretation, and you may wish to follow it if a translation of the Bible exists in your region and follows it. Alternate translation: [that King David longed to see Absalom]
