Note: This view shows ‘verses’ which are not natural language units and hence sometimes only part of a sentence will be visible. Normally the OET discourages the reading of individual ‘verses’, but this view is only designed for doing comparisons of different translations. Click on any Bible version abbreviation down the left-hand side to see the verse in more of its context. The OET segments on this page are still very early looks into the unfinished texts of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check these texts in advance before using in public.

3:1-24 The genealogy of David continues the genealogy of Ram (2:10-17), which included David as the seventh son of Jesse (2:15). David’s genealogy is divided into three sections: David’s sons (3:1-9); the kings of Judah down to Jehoiachin and Zedekiah (3:10-16), who were exiled to Babylon; and the descendants of Jehoiachin down to the time of the Chronicler (3:17-24).
Note 1 topic: translate-names
(Occurrence 0) Jehoiachin … Shealtiel
(Some words not found in UHB: and=the_sons Jeconiah captive Shəʼaltiyʼēl his/its=son )
These are names of men.
(Occurrence 0) Jehoiachin
(Some words not found in UHB: and=the_sons Jeconiah captive Shəʼaltiyʼēl his/its=son )
Some versions have “Jeconiah,” which is a variation of “Jehoiachin.”
(Occurrence 0) the captive
(Some words not found in UHB: and=the_sons Jeconiah captive Shəʼaltiyʼēl his/its=son )
This may be a title that was given to Jehoiachin because he was taken into captivity. However, some versions regard the word as “Assir,” the name of one of his sons.
